Stone and Wall Inscriptions of vattezhuthu, Ancient Tamil and Grandha Scripts (800 AD-1800 AD)
About 12 stone and wall inscriptions of early and late medieval periods on Vattezhuthu, early Tamil, Telungu and Malayalam characters were identified (800- 1800 A.D). The identity of the palace compound (Kovilakamparambu) of Venkundranadu is also established where the cultural evidences of foundation stones of a settlement, monuments, inscriptions, hero stones, sculptures, Chera coin and other remains are found with fresh research.
The identification of various stone and wall inscriptions from the study area reveals that as a part of ancient Tamizhakam, the earlier form of scripts in Vattezhuthu, Early Tamil and Early Malayalam existed in this area. The presence of medieval inscriptions in Vattezhuthu and Tamil Grantha characters highlight the prevalence of uniform scripts in South India and the significant role of the study area during the Chera period. The identity of several geographical names such as Venkundrum, Viruthy, Vembath and Kalpilly has been established by this research. Several Chera chieftains such as Yekkan Komathy, Chendran kundran, Viran Iravi and Yekkan Mikkayan has got official identity. Sanalkumar has also discovered other archaeological sites and inscriptions in Ernakulam District.
